One of the National Top 150 Workplaces of 2013

Mesquite ISD One of 14 Texas Districts on College Board AP® District Honor Roll
Mesquite ISD was one of 14 Texas school districts among 477 in the U.S. and Canada honored by the College Board with placement on its 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes districts for increasing access to AP course work while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.

Board of Trustees a Top Five Finalist in TASA’s Honor Board Award Program
Mesquite ISD’s Board of Trustees was one of five finalists in the 2013 Honor Board Award Program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). TASA created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the school children of Texas. The award criteria emphasize evidence of support for educational performance improvement.

  • Presented by Quality Texas Foundation to a role model organization demonstrating exceptional performance in all areas of organizational management.
  • Quality Texas Foundation is the state arm of the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program.


H-E-B Excellence in Education Award Finalist 2010, 2011, 2012

CUBE Annual Award for Urban School Board Excellence Winner 2011

  • National award presented by the Council of Urban Boards of Education.
  • Based on the following four criteria:
    • Excellence in school board governance
    • Building civic capacity
    • Closing the achievement gap—equity in education
    • Demonstrated success of academic excellence


Comptroller’s Gold Leadership Circle Member

  • Recognizes local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online.
  • “Gold” designation highlights those entities that are setting the bar with their transparency efforts. 

 

Highest Rating (5 Stars) in the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) for 2010, 2011 and 2012

  • FAST Identifies Texas school districts that produce high achievement while maintaining cost-effective operations.
  • Created by the state Comptroller.
  • MISD was one of only 11 school districts (out of 1,237 statewide) to earn 5 stars for all three years.


The Broad Foundation

  • Gave MISD national recognition in 2010 for the academic performance of our Hispanic and low-income students.
  • One of 16 large urban school district nationwide where a higher percentage of Hispanic students met or exceeded state standards in reading and math than their respective state averages.  In addition, a higher percentage of Hispanic students in these districts performed at the advanced level in both subjects than their respective states.
  • Same as above, but MISD one of 17 districts for low-income students.
