At its January meeting, the Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees voted to ban electronic cigarettes from all district property at all times. When you look into the eyes of Mesquite ISD students, you’re seeing the workforce and leaders of tomorrow. Help make our future brighter by helping raise the bar higher for academic success through Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. For just $15, the new Scholar Dollars Campaign enables you to cover the cost for an AP exam for an economically disadvantaged student. Students are often enrolled in more than one AP class, so the cost of the exams may pose a financial barrier for many students who have the ability to test out of college hours.

“Students who make a qualifying score on an AP exam receive college credits for their work in the advanced high school class,” said Sandra Coulson, the district’s coordinator of advanced academics. “Besides reaping savings off college tuition, these exams better equip our students for the rigor of the college courses ahead.”

The gala will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in North America with opening act The Fab 5, a Houston-based Beatles tribute band. “We are paying homage to the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first performance in North America on the Ed Sullivan show,” said Foundation Executive Director Randy Lewallyn. “We thought they would be a great fit as an opener for America,” he said.

Since the foundation began the gala in 2007, it has raised more than $500,000 to support programs within Mesquite ISD. In addition to the entertainment, the gala also features a live and online auction.
